Each work by kesha bruce lies at the cross roads of American Negro folklore, childlike
sentimentality, and socio-political belief.  The dialogue created by combining these elements
draws a psychological link between these seemingly disparate elements.

Each book in “Houses Tell Stories" is made out of a small palm sized jewelry box.  The inside of each box
shows an image of a house, while the inside of the box lid shows a corresponding image of the woman
who lived in the house.

Each jewelry box houses an accordion-style pull-out booklet which includes images and a text narrative
divided into several chapters referring to different time periods and events in the woman’s life.
